Workshop in Andalucia

In and around Jerez and Cadiz

Thursday 14 November - Thursday 21 November 2024

An authentic photographic retreat concentrating on Travel, Food & Wines

with Interiors & Still Life

led by Tim Clinch and Joanna Maclennan.

We will be based in the heart of two towns in the heart of Tim’s beloved Andalucia. The historic and beautiful town of Cadiz and the elegant wine producing town of Jerez de la Frontera.

We are still to confirm details of accommodation, but rest assured, we have a couple of VERY exciting locations lined up! We have decided to release some details of this workshop prior to finalising everything due to the enormous amount of interest we have had whilst discussing it in our on-line group.

This workshop is limited to 8 people and the all-inclusive price is €4,250.00 per person for single person occupancy (discount applies when sharing a room - contact us for details). This covers everything apart from your airfare to Sevilla and insurance (and if you need any help or advice in getting here, please ask), including all tuition, airport transfers, local transport, accommodation, food and wine.

We also offer a monthly payment plan if this is easier for you. Please do not hesitate to contact us.

LOCATION

We will be based in the centre of these two bustling and historic towns. Tim lived in the province of Cadiz for five years and we are smack dab in the middle of his ‘Manor’.

Tim says “It was a pleasure and a privilege last year to spend time here and introduce Joanna to what is my all-time favourite part of the world. Both cities are amazing as well as being a photographers dream. The fish market in Jerez (designed by Gustave Eiffel of Eiffel Tower fame in 1885) is, for me, simply the best!”

Obviously, in this part of the world there will be a lot of attention paid to the wines of the region. The mainstay of sherry will never be far from our lips (and if you don’t know your sherry, you are in for a MASSIVE treat. Manzanilla, Fino. Amontillado, Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez being the mainstays of these delicious wines) But also we will be exploring the huge upsurge and interest in Vermut…so long ignored, and also tasting many of the regions brandies and coñacs.

Alongside all the wines, we will be eating some of the best food that Andalucia has to offer, including incredible fresh fish and seafood and plenty of the best ham on the planet, the exquisitely silky ‘Jamon’.

Why Two Photographers?

We will be working alongside you the whole time giving you ample opportunities to learn from our shooting techniques in all disciplines. Both of us agree that it is far better to show people how to achieve something rather than tell people what to do. You will be shooting WITH us all the way!

Travel Photography & Story Building

On this Spanish adventure you can benefit from our experience at not only building the visual stories so essential for today’s photography but also gaining the vital ‘access’ to all the locations which enables us to learn the skills of photo-editing, something we feel is one of the most important and often misunderstood photographic skills.

Post-processing, portfolio reviews etc, etc…

Tim always says ‘You can never make a bad picture good by using post-production, but you can ALWAYS make a good picture better.’ Whether you shoot on a DSLR and use Lightroom or shoot on your mobile phone we will unlock some of the secrets of post-production and give you the confidence to make more of your images.

ITINERARY

We are still working on a more definitive itinerary but, with Tim’s intimate knowledge of the region and his professional relationship with the ‘Consejo Regional de Vinos de Jerez’ (the governing body for all the wines and spirits of the region) and his friendship and working relationship with the organisers of the very successful ‘Sherry Week’, the gastronomic and photographic possibilities are literally endless.

From private visits to some of the best known Bodegas to trips to private vineyards deep in the rolling chalk hills. From trips to such beautiful places in the heart of the ‘Sherry Triangle’ such as the delightful ‘El Puerto de Santa Maria’, home to one of Tim’s favourite Bodegas, Gutiérrez Colosia to his favourite bar in the whole of Spain, Bar Vicente, to the town of Sanlucar de Barrameda, home to Manzanilla, the driest of all the sherries and some of the tastiest fish cookery known to man we will be drinking in the sights, sounds and tastes of this remarkable region.

THE CLIMATE

Quite simply, the weather in Andalucia in November is almost always ideal!

When you know you’ll be huddling around the fire pretty much everywhere else, blue skies, temperatures in the mid 20sC and sunshine will be the order of the day. A light jacket or a sweater may be needed at night but generally…GORGEOUS!
